Pain and Soreness
Is My Dental Pain Normal?
At All Dental & Braces and Cosmetic Dentistry, patients often wonder what is and isn’t normal regarding dental pain. If you have recently gotten braces with our dentist and team, you may notice some discomfort. This is completely normal. In fact, it is very common for patients to experience soreness for two or three days after having braces placed on the teeth. It is also normal to experience some irritation on the cheeks, lips and tongue during this time. Until your mouth becomes accustomed to braces rubbing against the surfaces of your mouth, you may experience some sensitivity. Typically, patients stop experiencing these symptoms about one to two weeks after getting braces.
Pain Relief
If you are experiencing dental discomfort after getting braces in Killeen, Texas, we recommend trying one of these pain relief options. Dr. Rohini Singh has been able to help many patients with these simple remedies. If your teeth are tender, you should try gargling with lukewarm salt water. Try 1 teaspoon of salt with 8 ounces of water. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen and Tylenol can also be beneficial in relieving soreness. If the discomfort you are experiencing is due to irritation in the soft tissues of the mouth, a dental wax can create a protective barrier between the braces and cheeks. Our dentist and team can supply you with wax to get you relief.
Loose Teeth
Do your teeth feel loose now that you have braces? There’s no need to worry! Looseness of the teeth is perfectly normal while undergoing orthodontic treatment. The teeth must loosen before they can move, so this is a sign that your braces are working. Once your teeth are aligned, they will no longer feel loose.
Sports Mouth Guards
Are you active in sports? If so, our dentist may recommend that you get a sports mouth guard to protect your smile while you play. The mouth guard will protect your teeth and mouth, keeping you free from discomfort and oral injury.
