Oral Sedation
Oral Sedation
At All Dental & Braces and Cosmetic Dentistry, our dentist, Dr. Rohini Singh, and our team recognize that when it comes to sedation dentistry, one method may not be suitable for all patients or for all treatment types. One of the options that we offer to make your or your child’s visit to our office is oral sedation in Killeen, Texas.
What Is Oral Sedation?
Oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation that we may recommend to help ensure that you have a comfortable experience each time you visit our office. Administered in pill form, oral sedation is simple and easy to use. Because oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation, you will remain awake during the treatment, but you will feel more relaxed and at ease. There are many other benefits to sedation dentistry, including:
- With oral sedation, you simply need to take a pill. It is quick and easy to use.
- There are no needles involved.
- It produces the necessary amnesic effect for a comfortable experience.
- Oral sedation typically costs less than other forms of sedation.
If you and our dentist determine that oral sedation is right for you, you will be prescribed a pill that will help you relax. You will also receive instructions to take the pill before your scheduled appointment; be certain to follow the specific instructions included with your pill. It is important that you have a family member or friend drive you to and from your appointment to provide maximum safety to yourself and others. When you arrive at our office, you will be awake but extremely relaxed. You may feel drowsy, and it is not unusual for you to not remember all of the details of your appointment.
Is Oral Sedation Safe for Kids?
Oral sedation is a safe and effective option for children. Dr. Singh will consider your child’s age, the type of treatment your child is having, their ability to cooperate with the team and their level of anxiety before deciding if oral sedation is the best course to take, what form to use and the appropriate dosage level.
What Should I Do to Prepare?
Talk with Dr. Singh before your visit. Our dentist will explain to you what you can expect when you take the sedative, the effects and what you may experience during your treatment. Our dentist will also explain any side effects and talk with you about what you should or should not eat or drink before you take the medication. You should arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment if you will be using oral sedation during your visit.
If you would like to learn more about oral sedation and find out if it might help at your next appointment, please call 254-200-1893 today, and a member of our team will be happy to help you plan your visit.
